Calicoan surf Camp

Okay....with me is my fiance, my brother and my sister in law. Our main purpose in driving to Guiuan Eastern Samar is to visit the shrine of Saint Anthony de Padua. After we left the shrine the considerate Manong driver of the car we rented stop outside the Calicoan surf Camp resort... what a regrets we had because we did not bring any extra clothes and in a hurry to go back to Tacloban, but any way we stop for a while and took some pictures...

We will definitely stay there a little longer the next time we visit Calicoan surf Camp.

Guiuan Eastern Samar

We were on our way to visit Saint Anthony de Paduas church.

We rent a car from Tacloban City and a four hour drive to Guiuan Eastern Samar. From the proper city of Guiuan it took around 45 minutes to 1 hour drive to Saint Anthony de Padua Church in barangay Sulangan.

          Pilgrims from all over the country visit the shrine to ask for Saint Anthony de Paduas intercession.

 



A visit to Padre Gaspar

Padre Gaspar is located in Biliran province, a 30-minutes hike from Brgy. Hugpa (if its sunny)... hiking after  rainy days might took a little longer because you'll pass through rice fields which can be slippery. So I recommend visiting Padre Gaspar in summer or any sunny days. Aside from passing through rice fields, you'll pass through various rivers and it can be fun dipping in a cold water after a long hike from the holy mountain.

Sto.Nino shrine and heritage museum in Tacloban City

Here are some pictures of our visit to Sto.Nino shrine in Tacloban City. The shrine is one of the 29 presidential rest houses of the late President Ferdinand Marcus had built and it was built for his wife Imelda Marcos and thus consired the number 1 tourist spot in Tacloban.

A chapel dominates the ground floor with the image of Sto. Niño as focal point. Elevated by 2-3 steps on the peripheral are 13 guest rooms, each with varied motifs representing the different regions of the country. On the second floor is a very spacious ballroom as well as the bed chambers of the former First Family.Inside the mansion you can find some collections of paintings of historical events in Leyte. The shrine was also a palace during the Marcos regime, with Olympic-size swimming pool, state dining rooms, about 13 guest rooms and private bedrooms for Imelda, Ferdinand and their children. Imelda's bathroom was luxurious and larger than many Filipino homes. The place is filled with antique ceramics, pottery and collectibles. Imelda stayed there only once.

The guest rooms are each in a different theme; a little touch that I really like was that each room had a signed picture of Ferdinand, and a diarama showing Imelda performing some beneficial act or another.

The whole house was furninshed with a multitude of antiques from around the world, you can find Austrian mirrors in almost every room of the mansion.  It also became a repository of the Marcos' collections - chandeliers from Czech Republic, mirrors from Austria, tiles from Italy, jars from China, floor carpets from Argentina, among others.
